Connecting to SUNYCanton-Private Wireless Network - Mac



This guide explains how to connect a Mac to the campus secure wireless network SUNYCanton-Private.
If prompted to select a certificate, you must choose the certificate beginning with "SUNYCanton-Private":


 

This certificate is automatically installed on SUNY Canton managed Macs and is required for secure authentication.


Steps to Connect

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar and select "SUNYCanton-Private".

  2. If prompted to select a certificate, choose the certificate whose name begins with "SUNYCanton-Private"
     

    Select the proper Certificate.Certificate selected from drop down.
  3. Example:

    SUNYCanton-Private EAP-TLS Device <ComputerName>
     

  4. Click OK. (Account name should remain blank)

  5. If asked, enter your Mac password to authorize changes to certificate trust settings.

  6. The Mac should now immediately connect to SUNYCanton-Private.

Do not select certificates that do not start with SUNYCanton-Private unless instructed by Information Services.


Example: Correct vs. Incorrect

Correct:

SUNYCanton-Private EAP-TLS Device NYXXXXXXX
 

Do Not Select:

MDM SCEP SIGNER ...
Random UUID values
Other certificates not beginning with SUNYCanton-Private


If Connection Fails

If SUNYCanton-Private keeps prompting for a certificate or does not connect:

  1. Confirm you selected the certificate beginning with SUNYCanton-Private.
  2. Restart your Mac.
  3. If the issue persists, contact the IT Service Desk.
