What information should not be shared with Copilot?

  There are some things that should not be shared with Co-Pilot, some examples are included below but are not meant to be all encompassing.

 

  • Personal identification information (PII) - This can include, but not limited to, your full legal name, your address, phone number, email address, social security number or any other information that can be used to identify you personally. Any health related information that is protected under laws like HIPAA. This includes medical records and health-related data.

  • Financial Information - Information such as bank account numbers, credit/debit card numbers, or any other financial data should be kept private.

  • Passwords or Security Information - Never share your password, PINs, or any other security related data that could be used to access your accounts.
     
  • Confidential Work Information - You should not be sharing any proprietary or confidential information as it relates to your work or business. Additionally, any internal communications, email, and memos that are not intended for public disclosure.

  • Legal information - Any information related to legal matters, personal or professional, such as ongoing lawsuits or legal disputes, should be kept confidential.
  • Location information - Be cautious when sharing your current location or location history.

  • Private conversations - Avoid sharing details of any personal conversations or messages.

  • Intellectual Property - You should not be sharing unpublished works, intellectual property that you or your work own, or anything that can be construed as a trade secret. Anything that can be considered copyrighted material, including books, articles or other media.

  • Sensitive images or documents - Avoid sharing images or documents that may contain sensitive, personally identifiable information, or confidential information.

 

  • Ethical Data - Any data that considered historical data with biases, present unbalanced datasets, illegaly obtained data, or data that was collected from unethical sources. Historical data with biases will be perpetuated further in AI models. Unbalanced datasets with poor population diversity can lead to skewed results. Data that is obtained through illegal means or gathered without consent or other unethical practices should not be used with Copilot.
