How do I secure my account with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)? - Microsoft Authenticator App Method

****Below is a simple step by step guide to securing your account with MFA using the Microsoft Authenicator App.  To view a more detailed set of instructions, please download and view the following ARTICLE

 

Resolution:

 

1.  LOGIN to the Microsoft 365 portal at https://portal.office.com with your Canton NetID. 

 

2.  Click on your profile picture in the upper right and then click on VIEW ACCOUNT.

 

3.  In the Security Info tile, click on UPDATE INFO.

 

4.  Under Security info, click ADD METHOD.

 

In this example, we are providing instructions on how to setup the Microsoft Authenticator as your default method.  Please note that you should setup more than one method for MFA so you can have a backup option in case your default method is not available.

 

5.  Select the Authenticator app and click ADD.

 

6.  On your mobile device, go to the respective app store and INSTALL the Microsoft Authenticator

 

7.  Once you have the app installed, click NEXT on your PC.

 

8.  Click NEXT again, bringing up a QR code.

 

9.  On your mobile device, LAUNCH the Microsoft Authenticator app.

 

10.  Click ADD account.

 

11.  Click on WORK or SCHOOL account.

 

12.  If prompted to allow the Authenticator access to the camera, click OK.

 

13.  SCAN the QR code that is presented to you with your mobile device.

14.  If prompted to allow notifications, click Allow.

 

15.  Return to Authenticator setup page on your PC and click NEXT.  

 

FINAL STEP:   APPROVE the push notification sent to your mobile device.
